EDWARD “SHARK” DEVEAUX: A DEVOTED AND COMMITTED FAMILY MAN

Edward “Shark” Deveaux and his wife Beverly.

NASSAU, Bahamas, August 29, 2019 — Ricardo P. Deveaux posted a collage of photos on his Facebook with the following caption: “My parents, Edward and Beverly Deveaux, commissioned Rodger D Sands to take the 2019 official Deveaux Family Portraits. Disclaimer: Some of these individuals did not give me permission to post their photos, so don’t tell them you saw them on Facebook.”

I could not resist sharing the montage on my Facebook page as well as featuring these two  photos taken from it in BAHAMAS CHRONICLE because his father, Edward “Shark” Deveaux, is a very close and dear friend from boyhood days for whom I have always had the greatest respect because of his devotion and commitment to his family.

Shark was known in our younger years as arguably the most knowledgeable sports authority in the country when it came to sports statistics and he was the arbiter in many sports disputes during discussions at whatever “watering hole” became of favourite bar to hang out after work. One thing was certain, however, like clockwork, Shark would ask for his cheque around the same time each day and  head home to have dinner with his family

In scanning through the photos (see the complete collage on my Facebook page), I also saw a photo of another close and dear friend for many years, Dean Martin, whom I have not seen for many years. When I previously lived in the United States for 21 years before returning to The Bahamas permanently in 1996, I first met Dean Martin, who is originally from Haiti, on one of my visits back home because he was a close friend of my late close friends Preston Stuart, Jr. and Leo Dean. I always teased him about his last name “Martin,” jokingly commenting that it was not a Haitian name. I had forgotten that he was a member of Shark’s family.
