Disney Cruise Line last month shared its plans for a new private development proposed for Lighthouse Point in South Eleuthera with officials from the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers’ Confederation (BCCEC).
NASSAU, Bahamas — Members of the Eleuthera Community Support Group yesterday expressed “grave concern” over the revised proposal from the Lighthouse Point Partnership (LPP), which has been lobbying the government to approve its plan for a national park at Lighthouse Point in South Eleuthera over the proposed Disney Cruise Line port development.
The group is made up of pro-Disney individuals from 13 settlements throughout Eleuthera, who believe that Disney’s project is a better economic plan for the island.
On Friday, LPP said if it is given the green light to develop the 800 acres of land that make up Lighthouse Point, it would create 190 full time jobs, boost the country’s GDP by $11.5 million and preserve the natural environment.
The details were included in the partnership’s proposal to the government. It is an updated proposal from the one forwarded to the Office of the Prime Minister in March, which envisioned fewer jobs and economic output. https://thenassauguardian.com/2018/10/15/eleuthera-group-skeptical-of-new-lighthouse-point-proposal/
