WASHINGTON, D.C., Feb. 21, 2023 — First Lady Jill Biden will travel to Namibia and Kenya from Wednesday, February 22 to Sunday, February 26 to strengthen the United States’ partnerships on the African continent, and advance United States shared priorities in the region, the White House Office of the First Lady announced today.
“Dr. Biden’s engagements will focus on the empowerment of women and youth, efforts to address food insecurity, and promoting our shared democratic values,” the announcement said. “The visit follows the U.S.-Africa Leaders’ Summit late last year where Dr. Biden hosted a two-day spousal program. This will be Dr. Biden’s sixth visit to Africa, first visit to Namibia, and third visit to Kenya.”
The First Lady departed Washington, D.C. this afternoon from Joint-Base Andrews to Windhoek, Namibia. The following schedule was released for her visit:
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2023
In the evening, the First Lady will arrive in Windhoek, Namibia and greet First Lady of the Republic of Namibia Monica Geingos. This event will be open press.
Then, the First Lady will join First Lady Geingos to visit Heroes’ Acre, an official war memorial of the Republic of Namibia. This event will be open press.
Afterwards, the First Lady will meet with the President of the Republic of Namibia Hage Geingob and First Lady Geingos. The arrival at the State House is open press and the meeting will be closed press.
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 2023
Afterwards, the First Lady will participate in a luncheon with President Geingob and First Lady Geingos and deliver remarks. The remarks program will be open press.
Later in the day, the First Lady will visit a local organization in Katutura to highlight U.S. government programming that supports young people, women, and families to improve access to economic opportunities and health services. This event will be pooled press.
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 2023
In the morning, the First Lady will deliver keynote remarks to students in Namibia on the role of young people in shaping the future and strengthening democracy. This event will be open press.
