WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Hon. Darren A. Henfield, Bahamas Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Sidney Collie, Bahamas Ambassador to the United States and Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States (OAS), and Dr. Kenya L. Ward, Bahamas Ambassador-at- Large, attended the launch of the Expanded América Crece/Growth in the Americas Initiative on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at the U.S. State Department.
Growth in the Americas/América Crece is a U.S. government initiative that seeks to catalyze private sector investment in infrastructure in Latin America and the Caribbean.
According to the U.S. State Department website announcing the launch, “Growth in the Americas is a whole-of-government initiative that will foster private sector infrastructure investment in Latin America and the Caribbean. Expanded bilateral cooperation between the United States and countries in the region will help reduce excessive regulatory, legal, procurement, and market barriers to investment. Growth in the Americas will facilitate job creation and accelerate economic growth in the Americas by promoting the private sector as the primary engine of growth to develop critical infrastructure of all types – energy, airports, ports, roads, telecom, and digital networks, among others.
“Senior U.S. government officials from seven agencies will engage key business leaders as well as high-level officials from Latin America and the Caribbean at the White House and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on December 17. They will discuss how this initiative will promote sustainable, high-quality development while strengthening rule of law, improving governance, and promoting prosperity.”
