NASSAU, Bahamas, January 9, 2024 — The Bahamas Department of Correctional Services (BDCS) held a promotions ceremony this morning at the Correctional Training Institute as 47 Corrections Corporals were promoted to Corrections Sergeants

“Today’s promotional exercise was a much-needed one, especially within the Corrections Sergeants Rank at the Department, as this particular rank was nearly depleted, which caused a critical breakdown in institutional roles regarding the rank structure,” the BDSC noted in a post on Facebook.

The statement added, “The promotion of 47 Corrections Sergeants in the institution will fill the gap that existed in the Corrections Sergeant Rank. The newly promoted Corrections Sergeants will help to contribute to the overall efficiency of the organization.  Moreover, the promotional exercise serves as a source of motivation for the Department as it encourages others to be ambitious and to strive for excellence. It is an acknowledgment that hard work pays off.”

Acting Commissioner Doan Cleare noted in an interview that The Bahamas Department of Correctional Services is continuing its mission to maintain a secure and rehabilitative environment that is corrections-oriented. He indicated that the addition of 47 Corrections Sergeants would place the institution in a better position to achieve its goals.

Assistant Commissioner of Corrections Derek Noville, in his address the promotes, encouraged them to set the standard in the organization and to lead by example, adding, “You have to motivate your peers to strive for excellence in the organization.”
