NASSAU — The Franklyn R. Wilson Graduate Centre at the University of The Bahamas (UB) was officially opened yesterday, propelling the institution to new heights as UB continues its transition into a world-class university, the Nassau Guardian reported on May 18 in an article written by Royston Jones.
Dignitaries, politicians, business leaders, civil society and staff of the University of The Bahamas gathered at the Oakes Field campus for the opening ceremony.
Among the attendees were Governor General Dame Marguerite Pindling, Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis and several of his Cabinet colleagues, former Prime Minister Perry Christie, former Attorney General Allyson Maynard-Gibson and a number of sitting members of Parliament.
The new facility, referred to as “center of excellence”, will play an integral role for students pursuing graduate degree programs.
This is the second multimillion-dollar facility that UB has commissioned this month.
The university also recently opened the Hawksbill Hall at UB-North in Grand Bahama.
Addressing attendees, the prime minister said the advancement of UB is essential for national development, and critical to that process are graduate and doctorate programs.
He said the graduate center is another prime example of how public-private partnerships can work for the common good – in this case to the benefit of generations of Bahamian students.
Minnis pointed out that Wilson, a former chairman of the council of The College of The Bahamas, has a longstanding track record of commitment to tertiary education.
