WASHINGTON, D.C., August 3, 2024 – Greg Burrows Sr., Founder and President of the Freedom Farm Baseball League in Nassau, Bahamas — along with several coaches and a number of young Bahamian baseball players who are honing their skills and development in the Freedom Farm Baseball League, accompanied accompanied by their parents —  paid a courtesy call yesterday on His Excellency Wendall K. Jones, Bahamas Ambassador to the United States.

The visit by the group to D.C. also included an awe-inspiring experience for the young baseball players when they visited the Washington Nationals Stadium for the Nationals game against the Milwaukee Brewers, which was won by the Brewers, 8-3. Their day in D.C. also included a visit to the African-American Museum.

H.E. Wendall Jones, Bahamas Ambassador to the United States, and H.E. Chet Neymour, Bahamas Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the OAS, with some members of  the Freedom Farm Baseball League group during their visit to the Embassy of The Bahamas. With them at center on the right, is Greg Burrows, Founder and President of Freedom Farm.

Because of my mobility problem that requires me t use a wheelchair to get around, Ambassador Jones allows me to work from home; however, given by long-time participation in the development of baseball in The Bahamas, had I known that the Freedom Farm group would be visiting the Embassy on
Friday, I would have made a Herculean effort to be there to help greet them.

As a former President of the Bahamas Baseball Association (BBA), who took national teams on three occasions – twice in the 1960s and once in the early 1970s—to compete in the prestigious National Baseball Congress (NBC) tournament in Wichita, Kansas, I have a great deal of respect and admiration for Greg Burrows and his colleagues who are involved in the Freedom Farm Baseball League for having resuscitated baseball in The Bahamas from its deathbed.

There is no question that baseball in The Bahamas has been restored to good health, and with the new Andre Rodgers National Stadium fully operational, the future surely looks exceedingly bright for the continued growth and development of baseball in The Bahamas.

Indeed, current Prime Minister Philip E. Davis who is an all-around sports fan and baseball is one of his favourite sports, having been actively involved in playing the game during his youthful years. Also, Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Mario Bowleg has done and continues to do an excellent job with the ministerial portfolio that has been entrusted to him.
