NASSAU, Bahamas — Mrs. Elma Garraway took the Oath of Allegiance and Oath of Office during her swearing-in as Deputy to the Governor General by the Hon. Chief Justice Sir Brian Moree in the Diplomat Room at the Office of the Governor General, One Montague Place, on Tuesday, July 20, 2021.

Mrs. Garraway is a renowned Bahamian educator and former Permanent Secretary in the Bahamas Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. She was first appointed as a Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health in February 2000, following her appointment as Under Secretary in the Ministry of Education in May 1997.

With a career in education spanning more than 48 years, Mrs. Garraway also served as the Deputy Director of Education from January 1993 to May 1999, having served as chairperson, assistant chairperson and lecturer in the Teacher Education Division of The College of The Bahamas and as senior mistress, team leader and teacher at the primary school level.
