WASHINGTON, D.C. –Officers from the Embassy of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and the Consular Annex in Washington D.C., attained certification as investment ambassadors of Grand Bahama Island, as a result of completing the GB Ambassadors Program Workshop and Training Course.

In February 2022, the Grand Bahama Port Authority (GBPA) relaunched its ambassadors’ program to provide and equip staff of Bahamian Embassies and Consulates with essential investment information and material necessary to better promote Freeport, Grand Bahama, as the designated free trade zone of The Bahamas.

The training session, led by Mr. Derek Newbold, GBPA’s Chief Investment Officer, focused on the importance and benefits of its Special Economic Zone, the history of Freeport and the municipal responsibilities of the Grand Bahama Port Authority.

Additionally, Mr. Newbold highlighted current FDI projects in Freeport that are sure to grow its economy and that of the entire Bahamas.

At the end of the training, Consul General Patrick Adderley praised GBPA’s initiative, stating: “The program was very informative and well presented. The presenter, Derek Newbold, magically condensed almost 70 years’ worth of information into three exciting hours, which not only equipped me to promote and sell Freeport to potential investors but also left me anxious to invest myself. This program should be considered a must for our Missions abroad”.
