FREEPORT, Grand Bahama, January 16, 2023 — The Grand Bahama Port Authority (GBPA) City Management Department advises caution to drivers as new parts are awaited for replacement of the traffic lights located at Queens Highway and Fishing Hole Road.
“Following a malfunction of the traffic light system three weeks ago at Queens Highway and Fishing Hole Road, the intersection was placed in a four-way stop mode for the safety of the motoring public,” said Troy McIntosh, GBPA’s Deputy Director and City Manager of Building and Development Services, in a statement released today. “City Management was advised by our local technician that the traffic control box, which is responsible for the safe operation of the traffic light, failed. Replacement equipment is not an ‘off-the-shelf’ purchase and, due to current global supply chain challenges, our vendor has advised that timing of the production and shipment of the new equipment cannot be determined.”
The GBPA City Management Department further advised that they are working with local and international technicians and vendors to source alternative means to temporarily repair the traffic light until the new equipment arrives on Island.
“We urge you to approach the intersection with due care and attention, and to adhere to the rules of the four-way stop,” added Mr. McIntosh. “Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.”
