By OSWALD T. BROWN

WASHINGTON, D.C., October 6, 2023 – Having delineated a legislative agenda during the Speech from the Throne that addressed a wide range of issues, including a pledge to change the local government law to enhance its institution in Family Islands, the administration of Prime Minister Philip E. Davis graphically outlined its “Vision For A Stronger Bahamas” under five topics – HOUSING, NATURAL RESOURCES, LOCAL GOVERNMENT, SOCIAL SUPPORT AND NATIONAL SECURITY – in a post by the Office of the Prime Minister on Facebook on Friday, October 6.

Declaring that “We’re excited to share our plans for a stronger Bahamas,” the Office of the Prime Minister’s post added, “Our commitments include:

  • Housing: Affordable homes and climate resilience.
  • Natural Resources: Environmental protection and mining regulation.
  • Local Government: Enhanced local operations.
  • Social Support: Better services for seniors and persons with disabilities.
  • National Security: Strengthening armed forces and immigration reform.

We are working to build a stronger Bahamas. Your support matters.”

Governor-General Cynthia A. Pratt at Wednesday’s  ceremonies in Rawson square prior to reading  the Speech from the Throne.

Meanwhile, reading the Speech from the Throne on Wednesday, October 4, Her Excellency Governor-General Cynthia A. Pratt stated, “My government will implement a new Local Government Bill that will enhance the operations and responsibilities of local government throughout our family of islands. My government will also take local government concepts to our children, and so it will re-implement a junior Local Government Council throughout the Family Islands.”

I absolutely had to share this post with readers of my online publication, BAHAMAS CHRONICLE, which has a huge following among Bahamians in the diaspora across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom as well as in The Bahamas and the wider Caribbean.
