WASHINGTON, D.C., April 9, 2024 — I absolutely had to share a post on Facebook by Lisa Codella on an exciting event taking place in Freeport, Grand Bahama, this weekend with readers of my Washington, D.C. — based online publication, BAHAMAS CHRONICLE, which has a huge following among Bahamians in the diaspora across the United States as well as in The Bahamas and the wider Caribbean.
I lived in Freeport for more than 10 years before returning to Washington, D.C., in 2013 as Press, Cultural Affairs and Information Manager at the Embassy of The Bahamas, and as Editor of The Freeport News, I was extremely impressed by the sound business decisions made by the late Edward St. George, the then Chairman of the Grand Bahama Port Authority (GBPA), who was a very dear friend, in restoring Freeport’s well-deserved reputation as the Magic City.
As the current Acting Chairman of the GBPA, Edward’s daughter, Sarah St. George, and the Executive Management Team at the GBPA are doing an outstanding job in ensuring that Freeport continues its evolution from the devastating and destructive damages caused by Hurricane Dorian in September of 2019 and fully regains its reputation as being The Magic City.
Lisa Codella posted her promotional information on an upcoming event in Freeport this weekend with the following narrative:
“Grand Bahama is BUZZING with excitement for ArtLucaya this weekend! I hope you can join us! SO MUCH creative energy in THREE art galleries with nearly 200 works of art created by Grand Bahama artists…and I’m one of ’em!!
