FREEPORT, Grand Bahama, August 16, 2024 — The Grand Bahama Port Authority (GBPA) continued its ongoing support for the youth of Grand Bahama through a meaningful contribution to summer camps. This year, GBPA contributed $10,000 to fund a diverse range of programs designed to engage and inspire local children.

This year’s supported summer camps included a variety of sports and cultural enrichment programs. Young athletes benefited from specialized football, basketball, and soccer camps, where they enhanced their skills, learned teamwork, and improved their overall fitness.

In addition, the entrepreneurship camp offered a unique opportunity for young minds to explore their business potential through interactive projects and mentorship. The Junkanoo camp provided an immersive experience into Bahamian culture, where children were engaged with traditional music, dance, and crafts.

“At GBPA, we are dedicated to investing in the future of our community by supporting programs that focus on the growth and development of our youth, said Dr. Telina Smith, GBPA’s Director of Human Resources, in expressing her enthusiasm for the initiative:

“Our contribution to these camps reflects our commitment to nurturing talent, encouraging cultural appreciation, and providing valuable experiences for the children of Grand Bahama. We are proud to continue this tradition and look forward to the positive impact these experiences will have on the participants,” Dr. Smith said.

Adding to the enthusiasm, Anjoun Armaly, Chairman of the Swingers Junkanoo Camp, expressed their appreciation for the support,. “We are incredibly grateful to the Grand Bahama Port Authority for their generous investment in the Junkanoo camp,” Armaly said. “This support allows us to immerse children in our rich cultural heritage, helping them to understand and appreciate the traditions of Junkanoo. It is inspiring to see young people engage with their culture in such a meaningful way, and we are thrilled to offer this experience to the next generation.”

Through these camps, GBPA aims to support the personal growth and athletic development of Grand Bahama’s youth, while encouraging a deeper connection with their cultural heritage. This annual investment emphasizes GBPA’s dedication to enriching the lives of young residents and contributing to the community’s overall vitality.
