WASHINGTON, D.C., October 7, 2023 — Lynden Lundy, who lives in Grand Bahama, today posted an extensive collection of photos on Facebook that were taken this morning at the Grand Bahama Youth Leaders Breakfast with the following narrative: “What a GREAT MORNING it was HONORING our youth leaders with an APPRECIATION BREAKFAST. Carla Brown-Roker AND Apostle Kenneth A. Miller did an amazing job with this event I SALUTE YOU BOTH for a job well done.”

There were far too many photos for me to share all of them, but I unquestionably had to share a selection of them with readers of my online publication, BAHAMAS CHRONICLE, which has a huge following among the Bahamian diaspora across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom as well as in The Bahamas and the wider Caribbean.

What’s more, Carla Brown-Roker, one of the persons Lundy praised for doing “an amazing job with this event” and saluted “for a job well done” happens to be my beloved niece, the youngest child of my late brother Simeon “Sugar B” Brown, who was three years older than me and was my  mentor as a young boy growing up at Stanyard Creek, Andros, in the late 1940s.

It does not surprise me that my niece Carla Brown-Roker did “an amazing” job in helping to organize the GB Youth Leaders breakfast. Indeed, commitment, excellence and dedication have been supportive pillars of Carla’s professional life from she decided to become a teacher after graduating from college and later transferred her talents to government service. She is currently Youth Programs Coordinator in Grand Bahama with the Bahamas Government.

All of the features that are cornerstones in Carla’s professional life are also steeped in the DNA of her siblings. Her older brother Simeon R Brown is a noted Grand Bahama lawyer and her older sister Valery Brown-Alce has been involved in promoting tourism for several decades and is currently Senior Director of Marketing at the Bahama Out Islands Promotion Board.

Carla also has a son, Samuel Brown, who during his student years at Grand Bahama Catholic High School, was a perennial debate champion and is currently a lawyer.

So, as I noted earlier, it does not come as a surprise to me that Carla is held in such high esteem by her colleagues in Grand Bahama.
