WASHINGTON, D.C., October 8, 2023 – First Lady Ann Marie Davis today posted a fantastic collection of photos on Facebook that were taken at a grand concert that culminated a series of events celebrating the 40th anniversary of the renowned Bahamas National Youth Choir. Held in the ballroom of the Grand Hyatt at Baha Mar, the concert’s theme was “An Evening with our Stars.”.

In the narrative that accompanied the photos she posted, the First Lady stated, “Huge congratulations to The Bahamas National Youth Choir on their 40th. Anniversary. Always, this choir provides opportunities for self-growth, development and training. They sing in 27 different languages. They sang at the Platinum Jubilee celebration of Queen Elizabeth. Keep on going, our nation’s pride and joy.”

The First Lady added, “The Divas were off the charts. Special Award to Cookie.”

It sounds as if it was indeed an exciting night. This was visually confirmed by the photos posted by the First Lady, and I absolutely had to share some of them with readers of my online publication, BAHAMAS CHRONICLE, which has a huge following among the Bahamian diaspora across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom as well as in The Bahamas and the wider Caribbean.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The Bahamas National Youth Choir was founded in 1983 as a part of the celebrations marking the 10th anniversary of Bahamian independence. It is a charitable national cultural entity subsidized by The Bahamas Government and the private sector. Through the medium of the arts, the Choir provides opportunities for self-growth, development and training, as it continues to create responsible and confident citizens while building an enduring national cultural institution. Hundreds of young persons have passed through the Choir’s program since its inception. The Choir has sung in twenty languages, produced nine commercial recordings, travelled to seventeen countries on four continents, researched and documented much of the folk music of The Bahamas.
