GREENSLADE RECEIVES AVALANCHE OF CONGRATULATORY MESSAGES

LONDON, England  —  His Excellency Ellison E. Greenslade, QPM,  Bahamas High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Ireland, received an avalanche of congratulatory messages in the aftermath of his election as Chair of the Executive Committee (ExCo) of the Board of Governors of the Commonwealth Secretariat for 2018/2019 – 2019/2020.

In addition to numerous kudos from fellow Bahamians posted under the story on Facebook announcing the high honour bestowed on him, High Commissioner Greenslade was also lauded with praise from fellow diplomats in the United Kingdom and followers on his twitter page, including a Chief of Police in the United States, a colleague from his years as a distinguished police officer on the Royal Bahamas Police Force.

When he was appointed High Commissioner to London on November 15, 2017, High Commissioner Greenslade had recently retired  as Commissioner of Police.

Cyprus High Commissioner to the United Kingdom His Excellency Euripides Evriviades, who served in this position for the two previous years,  tweeted: “Well deserved, congrats to HC Greenslade of The Bahamas on election as ExCo Chair of the Board of Governors of the Commonwealth. As Chair of the BoG, I look forward to our result oriented, all inclusive & transparent collaboration for the good of our Commonwealth family.”

High Commissioner Greenslade, who will serve in this position for two years, said in a tweet that he was “truly humbled and deem it an honour to be elected by distinguished colleagues High Commissioners in London to serve as Chair of the Executive Committee (ExCo) of the Board of Governors of the Commonwealth Secretariat  for 2018/19 – 2019/2020.”

The Executive Committee comprises the eight largest contributors across all of the Secretariat’s funds (United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, India, New Zealand, South Africa, Nigeria and Malaysia), eight representatives from the four regions of the Commonwealth (Cyprus, Kenya, Samoa, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Bangladesh, Malawi, Solomon Islands and The Bahamas), Chair of the Board of Governors of the Commonwealth Secretariat (Cyprus) and the Chair-in-Office (United Kingdom). Four regional members are replaced each year.

Bahamas Minister of Foreign Affairs the Hon.  Darren Henfield congratulated High Commissioner Greenslade and wished him “all the best in his role as Chair of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth.”
