LONDON, England — His Excellency Ellison Greenslade, Bahamas High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, welcomed Dr. Giovanni Rigby and his family to The Bahamas High Commission, 10 Chesterfield Street, Mayfair, London, on Friday, May 17, 2019.

Since I posted this earlier, someone who knows Dr. Rigby very well provided me with some information on him that I had to add to this post, given the fact that Dr. Rigby is from Grand Bahama, where I lived for 12 years before returning to Washington, D.C., is 2013 as the Press, Cultural Affairs and Information Manager at The Bahamas Embassy, a diplomatic posting that ended in June of 2017.

Dr. Rigby, who was a Senior House Officer in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Rand Memorial Hospital in Freeport, has “worked in the medical field since 2007, occupying many different positions throughout his professional career,” according to the information sent to me.

It added: “While applying for licensure, he worked in hemodialysis for two and a half years, later beginning internship via the Public Hospitals Authority. Having gained a wealth of knowledge and surgical skills in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Rigby is now actively pursuing post- graduate training in this area.

“As a child, Dr. Rigby always had a keen interest in how the human body works. The question of ‘how a woman could have a growing baby in her abdomen and how it came out’, were a puzzling dilemma as a child. This along with other puzzling biological questions provoked a conscious decision to study medicine, and more specifically the specialty of Obstetrics and Gynecology.”

Dr. Rigby’s educational accomplishments include:  Bachelor’s Degree-Chemistry, St. John’s University, Collegeville MN;   Bachelors Degree- Medical Doctor, Higher Institute of Medical Sciences in Camaguey, Cuba; and Licensure-Public Health Authority in Havana, Cuba and The Bahamas Medical Council.

A graduate of Freeport’s Catholic High School, Dr. Rigby is “ from the quiet settlement of Hanna Hill, Eight Mile Rock,” and he is a ”member of The Church of God of Prophecy, Hepburn Town, Eight Mile Rock.”

He is also Second Vice President of The Ebenezer Foundation, a Youth Empowerment Non-Profit organization under the directorship of Barry B. Morris. It’s purpose is training young men through education, social and spiritual development to be active and beneficial citizens of their communities.
