NASSAU, Bahamas — Government officials and executives of Jack’s Bay resort and the Nicklaus Companies broke ground yesterday on the Jack Nicklaus Heritage Championship Golf Course at the Jack’s Bay resort and marina on Eleuthera, The Nassau Guardian reported on Thursday, April 20, in an article written by Paige McCartney.

The multimillion-dollar, 18-hole golf course is scheduled for completion in 2025 and will feature characteristics unique to The Bahamas.

The high-end development already boasts a 10-hole Playground golf course designed by Tiger Woods and TGR Design, which was completed in March 2020.

“Jack’s Bay is a truly wonderous site to behold and today’s groundbreaking represents an exciting step forward for Eleuthera and for The Bahamas. Congratulations on groundbreaking the first in the world, 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Heritage Championship Golf Course. Designed by the world’s best, it will be the first of its kind anywhere in the world. And of course, I will recognize the Tiger Woods Playground course that is here as well. Of course, we talk about two golf legends at one irresistible destination. With its picturesque setting and emphasis on health and wellness, Jack’s Bay is one of the finest luxury communities in the Caribbean,” Prime Minister Philip Davis said at yesterday’s groundbreaking ceremony.

“The Jack’s Bay team is a cadre of outstanding Bahamian entrepreneurs with a long track record of success. We are just the right people to create magic right here in this beautiful place. I want to say the journey to this place has not been an easy one, it has been tortuous, but the persistence and consistency of the Bahamian entrepreneurs that guide and lead this is unmatched, and hence we are here today and we expect that true inspiration is brought on to our nation on our 50th anniversary and this a mark of that event, and to see what the promise of independence was. We are now seeing some of those promises come to light with Bahamians being involved in major mega projects.”

Sir Franklyn Wilson, chairman of Eleuthera Properties Ltd., said as the developer he was finally able to break ground on the project because the company finally had the right combination to fulfill the dreams of the Cotton Bay Club, which once occupied the space.

He said the perfect scenario includes having a former minister of tourism, Tommy Turnquest, as chief executive officer of the company.

“There has never been a company in The Bahamas with the structure that we have, it’s never happened. And why is that relevant? It’s relevant because Thomas Lipman talks about people wanting to come to places like this because they want to have memories. Between Tommy Turnquest and me and the support of people we have, we can create what God has provided to make sure people make the memories. We know authenticity.
