NASSAU, Bahamas — The Nassau Guardian has announced that journalist Travis Cartwright-Carroll has been promoted to the position of news editor effective January 1, 2023.
Travis joined The Nassau Guardian as a copy editor in 2011 and became a reporter later that year, functioning for a time in both positions.
In 2017, he was appointed senior reporter and in 2018, he was promoted to assistant news editor, taking on new responsibilities and challenges.
In that role, he has supported senior editors in directing and editing daily content for both The Nassau Guardian’s publication and online site, and training and assigning reporters.
“Cartwright-Carroll has covered almost every major news story in The Bahamas in the last 11 years and is the newspaper’s leading reporter for parliamentary and national coverage,” The Guardian noted in an article published on Tuesday, January 3.
In his new role, Cartwright-Carroll will continue to assist Executive Editor Candia Dames in the management of editorial staff and in ensuring quality daily content for the newspaper, the oldest daily in The Bahamas.
Commenting on Cartwright-Carroll’s promotion, Dames said, “It has been rewarding watching Travis develop from a young College of The Bahamas English student proofing content at nights into a serious-minded, committed and impactful journalist who has mentored young reporters in our newsroom.
“Travis is dependable and hardworking and carries a lot of the weight of our daily production, including pushing out breaking news. His promotion comes at a time of staffing challenges across the media landscape of The Bahamas. I look forward to a long and continued working relationship with him.”
Cartwright-Carroll said, “It is an honor to be appointed to this new position and I thank the executive editor and the owners of The Nassau Guardian for their confidence in me. During my time at the paper, I have done my best to live up to the expectations of my peers, my editors, and the public’s trust.”
