WASHINGTON, D.C., August 15, 2019 — Thanks to Cheryl Greene for the reminder in her post on The Original AM Joy Fan Page that today is the birthday of Congresswoman Maxine Waters, whom I first met back in the 1990s when her husband Sidney Williams was United States Ambassador to The Bahamas and I was Editor of The Freeport News in Grand Bahama.
During his tenure as U.S. Ambassador to The Bahamas from 1994-1998, Ambassador Williams was an extremely popular U.S. envoy and he and Congresswoman Waters developed close friendships with a cross-section of Bahamians during that period.
Consequently, after Ambassador Williams’ diplomatic appointment ended, they have been frequent visitors to The Bahamas as house guests of Sir Franklyn Wilson and Lady Sharon Wilson, with whom they cemented a very close friendship during Ambassador Williams service in The Bahamas. Their most recent visit was this past Christmas.
Congresswoman Waters, a Democrat who represents California’s 43rd Congressional District, currently is the first woman and the first African American chair of the House Financial Services Committee, a position she assumed on January 3, 2019.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CONGRESSWOMAN MAXINE WATERS.
