HARD LOCKDOWN NO LONGER RECOMMENDED FOR NP

NASSAU, Bahamas, August 24, 2020 — Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis has announced that a hard lockdown is no longer recommended for New Providence and, from Monday, August 31, many businesses will be able to resume activity, The Tribune reported August 24.

Speaking at a joint press conference with the Ministry of Health, Dr Minnis said last Monday’s lockdown decision for New Providence was taken on the data available at that time. He said Bahamians then contacted him to say they needed more time and “we listened.”

The Prime Minister said that the current provisions will remain in place on New Providence until 5am on Monday,  August 31, then:

  • Restaurants can provide outdoor dining, curbside and takeaway
  • The Fish Fry can provide curbside and takeaway
  • Hardware stores to continue as usual
  • Other retailers can provide curbside and delivery
  • Offices can operate with physical distancing
  • Exercise will be allowed from 5am-9am.

There were 14 new cases within the last 24 hours. 2 additional deaths.

NEW PROVIDENCE:

  • Restaurants including Fish Fry and Potters Cay can operate using Outdoor dining, curbside, takeaway and delivery services.
  • Construction activity and hardware stores will continue as normal.
  • This list of social activities will be listed in the revised order which will be available shortly.

There will be a major national address on the emphasis on the economy shortly.

The Economic recovery committee will deliver a Full report in September.

There will be special support for the creative community to showcase and deliver their products to the world.

There will be Business grants for street vendors and support for small businesses and entrepreneurs.
