WASHINGTON, D.C., November 29, 2021 – When he officially visits the White House to present his credentials as the new Bahamas Ambassador to the United States, His Excellency Wendall K. Jones, CEO of Jones Communications, will have another “high-profile” photograph to add to his already impressive collection of photos with famous individuals.

As one of the most accomplished journalists in The Bahamas, Mr. Jones has over the years interviewed many world-famous individuals.

Quite possibly, during Mr. Jones’ discussion with President Biden, the fact that the President visited Nassau during spring break in 1963 while he was a student at the University of Delaware may be mentioned.

Indeed, it was during that spring break that President Biden met his first wife, Neilia Hunter, who was a student at Syracuse University at the time, on the beach at the British Colonial Hotel.

After he graduated from the University of Delaware, Joe Biden moved to Syracuse to attend law school and he and Nelia were married in 1966 while he was still studying there.

“After his graduation, they moved to Wilmington in Delaware, where he practised law and won a seat on New Castle County Council in 1970,” according to an article in the New Yorker.

On December 18, 1972, Neilia took sons Beau and Hunter, then ages 3 and 4, along with daughter Naomi, who had just turned 1, to buy a Christmas tree for the upcoming holidays, when she and her daughter were killed in a tragic car accident and her two sons, Beau and Hunter, were critically injured.

Of course, President Biden’s and Nelia’s meeting over spring break in Nassau will bring back far more pleasant memories, and if the topic does arise, it would be a propitious opportunity for Ambassador Jones to officially invite President Biden to make an official visit to The Bahamas.

In any case, there is no question that Prime Minister Davis has made an excellent choice in selecting Mr. Jones as the next Bahamas Ambassador to the United States.

I certainly hope that I am given the opportunity to assist him in some supportive capacity.
