OTTAWA, Canada –His Excellency V. Alfred Gray, Bahamas High Commissioner to Canada, travelled to Montreal on Friday, August 4, 2023, to address the 58th Biennial National Convention of the Church of God of Prophecy Eastern Canada Division, where Bahamian Bishop Shelton Beneby presides as the General Overseer.
High Commissioner Gray brought greetings on behalf of the Hon. Philip E. Davis, Prime Minister of The Bahamas, to the more that 3,000 delegates who attended the convention from August 4th to-6th.
In his remarks, High Commissioner Gray told the delegates that that as they celebrate, “I would like to say three things to you.”
“Firstly, I pay homage to two remarkable individuals among us tonight in the persons of Bishop Sheldon L. Beneby and his wonderful wife, for the leadership which they have provided to the Church of God of Prophecy Eastern Canada Division over the years,” High Commissioner Gray said.
He added, “Bishop, your accomplishments radiate like a guiding light and we in the Bahamian diaspora are beaming with pride and gratitude for your dedication to your God, your church and the broader community of Canada. Your spirit transcends boarders, reflecting the essence of God’s leadership moving by faith from The Bahamas to Canada living out God’s purpose for your life.
“Secondly, I must remark that the Church of God of Prophecy in the Bahamas has been a denominational pillar during the early years of our country, moving from a colony to an independent Bahamas in 1973. This religious movement was led at that time by one Bishop Alvin S Moss, who built the largest religious edifice and one of the greatest congregations during that era of change. In fact, it is true to say that the Church of God of Prophecy in the Bahamas continues to play a pivotal role in shaping Christian values and the destiny of our nation today. I have no doubt that your leading of the Church of God of Prophecy Eastern Canada division will stand as a beacon of your religious heritage, on which you build today.
“Finally, as you move towards your 59th Biennial Convention, it is my sincere hope that this church will blossom into one of the largest Christian denominations on this side of heaven bringing men and women to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.”
