HIGH COMMISSIONER GREENSLADE ATTENDS UNVEILING OF SIR JACK HAYWARD STATUE IN WOLVERHAMPTON

LONDON, England – His Excellency Ellison Greenslade, QPM, Bahamas High Commissioner to London, was among the family,  friends, former Wolves players and staff who attended a ceremony outside the Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club stadium, where the £250,000 bronze statue of  Sir Jack Hayward was revealed  on what would have been Sir Jack’s 95th birthday, Thursday, June 14, 2018.

Sir Jack, who died in 2015 aged 91, was co-owner of the Grand Bahama Port Authority (GBPA). For seven years (2000 – 2007) of his distinguished career in law enforcement in The Bahamas, High Commissioner Greenslade was Assistant Commissioner of Police for the Northern Region with responsibility for Grand Bahama, Abaco, Bimini and The Berry Islands.

High Commissioner Greenslade retired from the Royal Bahamas Police Force as Commissioner of Police on October 30, 2017, and shortly after took up his appointment as The Bahamas High Commissioner to the Court of St. James.

“We were truly pleased to join with the family of Sir Jack Hayward, his special friends, and the community of Wolverhampton for the unveiling of a magnificent statue in his honour this morning,” High Commissioner Greenslade noted in a tweet.

The statue of Sir Jack that was unveiled in front of Wolves Stadium depicts in his iconic ‘thumbs up’ pose. There was warm applause from VIPs and hundreds of fans as the statue was revealed following speeches from his son Jonathan and Wolves managing director Laurie Dalrymple, according to a story in the Wolverhampton Express & Star.
