IMPRESSIVE BAHAMIAN PARTICIPATION IN PILOT INTERNATIONAL 2024 CONVENTION

DENVER, Colorado, July 20, 2024 — The Bahamas is on display this week at Pilot International’s 2024 Convention currently underway in Denver, Colorado as The Bahamas District of Pilots prepare for the installation of the installation of international service organization’s second Bahamian International President, Nicki Dawkins.

Pilot International members from around the world, including record numbers from New Providence and Grand Bahama representing The Bahamas District of Pilots, are attending the convention, which opened at the Hyatt Regency Denver Tech Center on Wednesday, July 17, and ends today

Bahamas First Lady Ann Marie Davis, who is a Pilot Club member, actively participated in the various activities during convention and representatives of The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism also here showcasing reasons why The Bahamas is among the world’s leading tourist destinations.

The Bahamas Flag was on display during the flag parade and was proudly paraded by Incoming Governor of The Bahamas District, Toni Hudson- Bannister.  Of course we had to bring Junkanoo!

Chartered on October 18, 1921 in Macon, Georgia,by Elizabeth Leonard and 40 local business women, the name “Pilot” was inspired by the mighty riverboat pilots of that day who represented leadership and guidance .

Its first President was Lucy B. Allen, who was elected at the organization’s first convention in 1922. Ruby Newhall, President of Pilot International in 1949, first envisioned Anchor Clubs, Pilot’s youth service organization arm.

Pilot International Founders Fund was established in 1975 to further Pilot’s humanitarian efforts. Pilot International Founders Fund grant & scholarship program began in 1977, since then more than $3.2 million has been awarded to Pilot Clubs and students seeking higher education.
