NASSAU, Bahamas — The post of chief justice was finally officially filled yesterday with the swearing in of Senior Justice Stephen Isaacs.
Isaacs, 63, was sworn in by Governor General Dame Marguerite Pindling during a brief ceremony at Government House that was attended by government ministers, judicial officers, the legal fraternity, friends and family.
However, Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis, who was roundly criticized by the opposition, the Bar Association and even a member of his Cabinet, for his delay in appointing a chief justice after Sir Hartman Longley was appointed Court of Appeal President last December, was conspicuously absent.
Court officials also led a protest, organized by Senior Magistrate Derence Rolle-Davis, over the delay.
Isaacs was out of the country when Minnis announced his appointment, effective July 9. https://thenassauguardian.com/2018/08/11/isaacs-sworn-in-as-chief-justice/
