NASSAU, Bahamas — Responding to mishaps with ticket sales for the 2022 Boxing Day Junkanoo parade, Junkanoo Corporation of New Providence (JCNP) Chairman Dion Miller said yesterday that they are “doing everything” to rectify the situation for the New Year’s Day parade, The Nassau Guardian reported on Wednesday, December 28, in an article written by Nasia Colebrooke’
“We had some challenges with the seating app, not the sales itself,” Miller said. “The sales were very strong.
“The parade was 100 percent still sold out, but we had some fraudulent activities happening in regards to the digital tickets, which we are trying to clean up and rectify. So, I want to apologize to the public on our behalf for that.
“But for the JCNP, our partners Aliv, we are doing everything. We have a meeting scheduled for today (Tuesday) to rectify the situation. So, we anticipate a smoother process for the New Year’s Day parade.”
While Miller said that he did not want to disclose exactly what mishaps occurred with ticket sales, until he receives the full report, Aliv Chief Information Officer Dwayne Davis on Monday night revealed multiple ways that customers forged ticket sales.
“What’s been happening is we had occasions where persons took screenshots of tickets and shared them with persons,” said Davis.
“We had persons take screenshot of tickets and resell the tickets outside their original tickets. But anyone that comes to Bay Street with the original email of your original ticket purchase confirmation, we will be able to … seat you.”
He added, “We will personally track every seat and whatever seat that’s not in the system, we will make sure we take out the system.”
Davis also revealed that about 6,800 to 6,900 tickets were sold for the 2022 Boxing Day parade and that there are still tickets available for the New Year’s Day parade.
Also responding to a statement from Executive Chairman of the Broadcasting Corporation of The Bahamas Picewell Forbes that Channel 212 and Aliv “intruded” on the corporation’s broadcast of the parade “for more than an hour”, Miller said, “Certainly, JCNP does not condone any activity of that [nature] and I’m sure whatever occurred will be rectified, and Junkanoo will be broadcast on both ZNS as well as the cable network.”
Despite the mishaps, Miller noted his overall satisfaction with the parade.
