(EDITOR’S NOTE: Statement From Julian Sawyer, PLP National Vice Chair for Grand Bahama, on the passing of Justice Jethro Miller, QC)
FREEPORT, Grand, May 23, 2022 — The PLP family was saddened to learn of the passing of Justice Jethro Miller, QC, a Bahama, in business and in politics.
Apart from his civic contributions, he served as a Justice in the Supreme Court and was a candidate for our party in a general election campaign. He made a seminal contribution to the public life in Grand Bahama and will be missed.
His wife predeceased him. They were a couple in developing the public life of our island.
He was the first PLP candidate to contest the ‘Lucaya seat’ (Currently Central Grand Bahama). He remained a part of the Freeport community professionally and in the Freeport bowling community.
On behalf of our leader and Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip E. Davis QC, MP and all of our officers and members, I express our deepest condolences on his passing.”
According an article in Bahamas Press, “former Acting Chief Justice, and former PLP candidate Jethro Miller Q.C. was found unresponsive this evening.”
Bahamas Press added: “Police confirmed the drowning death of an adult male (Miller) on Grand Bahama Island. Police reported to the scene of a drowning of a male in the area of Sgt. Major Road Sunday evening. The body of the lawyer was pulled from a pool in that area.
“Miller was an attorney who hailed from the beautiful island of Andros, and settled in a successful career on Grand Bahama. Miller was sworn-in as an Acting Chief Justice back in 2010. He was also a stalwart in the Progressive Liberal Party.
“We pray for his family in their loss, and pray, that our GOOD AND GRACIOUS GOD GRANTS HIM REST ETERNAL!”
