LENNY KRAVITZ AND SEAN PENN TEAM UP TO HOST “CORE x LET LOVE RULE” BENEFIT FOR THE BAHAMAS

On his Facebook page, Bahamian-American  rock-star Lenny Kravitz (pictured left with Sean Penn) posted the following comments: “ Last night’s benefit in Miami for The Bahamas was incredible. A special grant of $1.6 million from the American Red Cross was matched by the audience at the event for a total of $3.2 million raised in support of the Hurricane Dorian relief efforts CORE Response and my #letloverulefoundation are currently organizing. This money will be used to help out my brothers and sisters in The Bahamas who need it most, and this is only the beginning. Let’s get to work!”

MIAMI, Florida –When Hurricane Dorian struck The Bahamas in late August, thousands of people were left homeless, hundreds were declared missing, and at least 61 died—among them a relative of Lenny Kravitz, whose grandfather was from The Bahamas. Kravitz hasn’t been back to his home on the island of Eleuthera since the hurricane struck, but The Bahamas haven’t been far from his mind.

On Thursday night (December 5) in Miami, Kravitz joined forces with Sean Penn and their respective organizations—Let Love Rule and Core, an acronym for Community Organized Relief Effort— to hold a benefit for victims of Hurricane Dorian. Along with their co-hosts—venture capitalist Vivi Nevo, Chrome Hearts co-owner Laurie Lynn Stark, real estate developer Craig Robins, and hotelier Alan Faena—Kravitz and Penn gathered a crowd at a beach tent in Soho Beach House that included Leonardo DiCaprio, Jared Leto, Helena Christensen, Richie Akiva, Bella Hadid, Karolina Kurkova, Soleil Moon Frye, and Dustin Yellin.

“I knew I had to come to Art Basel,” Kravitz said. “So I figured this would be a good stop and we put it together rather quickly.”

Faena said of Penn and Kravitz, “They’ve been doing great and doing that support for these kind of natural disasters, because I love them all, and they were in Miami, so all these conditions make me support them and be here for them.”

“Bahamians are amazing people. I’m very proud to come from Bahamian lineage and they’re very resilient, very strong, very spiritual,” said Kravitz. “They have a great amount of faith. Folks are doing the best they can to get back on their feet to continue and a lot of people are displaced. A lot of people are not at home where they should be. They’re on different islands or they’re in the States or they’re in Canada or wherever they may be. But there are a lot of folks that are still there trying to put what they can back together just so they have some kind of shelter.” Click on the following link to see VANITY FAIR’S report on the event: https://www.vanityfair.com/style/2019/12/lenny-kravitz-sean-penn-bahamas-benefit
