LYFORD CAY FOUNDATION OFFERS TWO-YEAR GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

Minister of State for Public Service Pia T. Glover-Rolle with Dr. Nicola Virgill-Rolle of the Lyford Cay Foundation.

NASSAU, Bahamas, Monday, August 15, 2022 –Hon. Pia T. Glover-Rolle, MP for Golden Gates and Minister of State for Public Service, on Monday, August 15, announced that the Lyford Cay Foundation is offering a two-year Graduate Scholarship for a member of the Public Service to attend the Peter Munk School for Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto.

“This scholarship will not only prepare the qualifying individual for a role in executive leadership within the Public Service, it will inspire others to excel and aspire to greatness,” Minister Glover Rolle revealed in a post on Facebook.  “I would like to commend Dr. Nicola Virgill-Rolle and her team at the Lyford Cay Foundations for helping to make this very special moment a reality.”

The Peter Munk scholarship will allow a member of the Public Service, with a minimum of three years’ experience, to further develop the skills, acumen, and knowledge needed to prepare for a long and rewarding career as a leader in the public service.

“Since day one, I dedicated myself to improved professional development and the upskilling of existing public service members,” Minister Glover-Rolle said. “The Ministry of Public Service functions as the HR branch of the entire government. It is through the Ministry of Public Service that widespread workforce policy changes are initiated, including those related to training and education.”

She added: “In our Ten-Point Plan – the New Day Agenda for the Re-imagining of the Public Service – education, training, and career progression are featured heavily. This is in alignment with the commitment made in our administration’s Blueprint for Change to reinvent the Public Service through policy and operational reforms, which include the development of our human resources.

“We understand that while new policies and systems are needed, it is the people who will truly drive the changes we need within the public service. We recognize that it is through the work of public servants that we are able to fulfill our mandate.

“The only way our agenda will succeed is if our public servants are succeeding, and the only metric that truly matters is the impact that we have on people. We must invest in our people. Today is a commitment to that goal!”
