NASSAU, Bahamas, May 26, 2021 — Ms. Marici Thompson has been named as the incoming principal of St. Augustine’s College, effective January 1, 2022.
This was announced by St. Augustine’s college in a release posted on its Facebook page.
Ms. Thompson, a 1980 alumna of the College, taught Spanish for 15 years before becoming guidance counsellor, a position she has filled for the last 19 years.
“She places as a priority the safety and well-being of staff and students, along with the goal of improving the curriculum to better prepare students to succeed at the tertiary level,” the release noted.
Ms. Thompson has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Spanish and Sociology and a Certificate of Secondary Education from the College of Mount St. Vincent (New York), a Master of Education Degree in School Counselling from Kent State University (Ohio), and is currently pursuing a second Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, Management, and Emerging Technology through Marconi International University (Miami, Florida).
She is a member of the Bahamas Association of Independent Secondary Schools Counsellors’ Association. She serves on the Juvenile Panel, Department of Legal Affairs, and has collaborated with members of the Armed Forces to plan seminars for students. Her duties have also included working with the Department of Social Services and Community Counselling Services.
As college advisor, she has established long-term relationships with admissions counsellors and university presidents, securing placement and scholarships for many students over the years. She has worked on various SAC planning committees, including the 50th, 60th, 70th, and 75th anniversary events, alongside members of the Board of Directors, administrators, and alumni.
Ms. Thompson for the past 25 years has been a member of St. Anselm’s Roman Catholic Church, where she is a very active reader and commentator and previously taught children’s liturgy.
She also taught CCD for several years at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral when she was a member of that parish and was certified by the Archdiocese of New York in 1987.
