NASSAU, Bahamas, July 10, 2019 — It’s WEDNESDAY!!! 💃🏽💃🏽😜 🇧🇸 Meet our WOW Wednesday Woman in Tourism Joy Jibrilu, Director General of the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism & Aviation, who has oversight in the development, marketing and promotion of the Bahamian Tourism Industry since May 2014. Prior to this, she served as the Director of Investments in the Bahamas Investment Authority (BIA), Office of the Prime Minister, commencing that role in July 2008.
In both positions, Mrs. Jibrilu has been involved in negotiating and implementing some of the largest tourism investment and development projects in the country, including the final phases of the Atlantis Paradise Island mega resort and the multi-billion dollar Baha Mar resort development on Cable Beach.
At the Ministry of Tourism & Aviation, Mrs. Jibrilu oversees multi-faceted marketing programmes targeting consumers in global markets, including the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Latin America and Europe. Mrs. Jibrilu is an attorney by profession, experience which was invaluable in negotiating Heads of Agreements for the major touristic developments in the country, including the $3 billion Baha Mar resort and Phases Three and Four of the Atlantis project.
Prior to joining the Public Service of The Bahamas, Joy lived in West Africa and England, where she worked in International School Education, including serving as a Director of the Board of the Association of International Schools in Africa (AISA) for nine (9) years. She was also very active as a Board Governance trainer, working with multinational organisations and International Schools alike.
She received her early education in the United Kingdom and has attended tertiary institutions in Canada, France, England and the United States, where she obtained Degrees at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels (English & French, French Civilization, and International School Administration) as well as professional qualifications.
