NASSAU, Bahamas, March 8, 2023 — Today, on 8th March 2023, people all over the world celebrate “International Women’s Day,” a day where women are recognized for the monumental roles we play in society. “Accelerate Equality” is an apt theme chosen for this year. Even with all of the remarkable advancements we have seen in the fight for the rights of women and girls, “Accelerate Equality” reminds us that there is still so much to do.
The observation of this day is so vital because there are women in every sector fighting for equality and equity to this very day, on this very day. Many of these women go unnoticed, unappreciated, and unprotected. We ought to acknowledge the power and resilience of women globally, but also raise awareness of the imbalances that are still in many sectors.
We are living in an age of dynamic revolution. A perpetually evolving revolution where women saw lack, stepped in, created space for ourselves, and demanded to be heard. This determination to travel these unbeaten paths, to accelerate equality and equity in whatever area we find ourselves, has made way for more opportunities for young girls to see a future of promise, diversity, and inclusion.
We are living in an era where, still, women are making history for being the “first” in industries and organizations that have been around for so many years. We must continue to push the needle forward, recognize the tremendous contributions that women have made to our ever-growing society and continue the drive towards transformative changes accelerating equality and equity.
Today we pause to be grateful for the trailblazers of the past, appreciate the innovators of the present, and encourage the game-changers of the future. No matter the industry, no matter the circumstance, no matter the background or story, we must continue to fight for the acceleration of equality and equity for women and girls all over the world.
