LONDON, England — My fellow Bahamians, and friends of The Bahamas, I am delighted to bring greetings from The Bahamas High Commission in London on The Bahamas’ 48th anniversary of Independence.
The Independence theme, “A Celebration of Life: Revive us again,” is a clarion call of optimism and encouragement for us to renew our faith in the Almighty and to unite in fellowship and love as we fix our eyes on the closing months of 2021 and look to 2022 with great hope and confidence.
The past sixteen months have been challenging for countries across the globe. The far-reaching negative effects of the Covid-19 pandemic were felt at every level of society and it has drastically impacted our way of life! Notwithstanding a myriad of challenges, the Bahamian diaspora in the United Kingdom have demonstrated the resilience, perseverance, and mental fortitude that Bahamians are known for. They took responsibility for themselves, and for their families, and exercised the greatest measure of precautions while carefully following the advice of the Government of the United Kingdom and the health services.
Likewise, the Government and people of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas have demonstrated the strongest resolve in the face of this pandemic and, in recent months, tremendous progress has been made in re-opening our economy and returning our people to work. The roll-out of vaccines, coupled with effective and efficient public health management, has imbued us with a renewed sense of hope for a better tomorrow. Therefore, we embrace this year’s Independence theme with confidence as we continue to march “Forward, Upward, Onward, Together.”
On behalf of my wife and all staff at The Bahamas High Commission in London; the Director and staff of the Bahamas Tourist Office Europe; the CEO and Managing Director and staff of the Bahamas Maritime Authority; the President and members of The Bahamian Diaspora in the United Kingdom; and the President and members of “Friends of The Bahamas in the United Kingdom,” it gives me great pleasure to congratulate the Government and the people of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas on this 48th Anniversary of Independence.
May God continue to bless the people of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas!
