FREEPORT, Grand Bahama, February 28, 2024 – The Hon. Ginger M. Moxey, Minister for Grand Bahama and Sister Cities International representative for The Bahamas and The Caribbean, played a pivotal role at the 26th Inter-American Conference of Mayors & Local Authorities hosted by the Miami-Dade County International Trade Consortium from February 22-23, 2024
Gathering over 100 policymakers, experts, and practitioners from 18 countries across Latin America and the Caribbean, the two-day event fostered invaluable discussions on the topics of urban development, ecotourism, business, community resilience and disaster preparedness.
While seated on a panel, Minister Moxey underscored The Bahamas government’s dedication to innovative and transformative approaches that champion sustainability, equity, and environmental stewardship. Speaking passionately about “Innovate 242”, where she serves as Cabinet Co-Chair, Minister Moxey announced the establishment of Grand Bahama’s Center for Sustainability through this groundbreaking initiative, focusing on pioneering sustainable solutions for Grand Bahama communities.
Highlighting Grand Bahama’s resilience in the face of extreme natural disasters, Minister Moxey declared, “Our robust track record positions Grand Bahama as a beacon for best practices in sustainability,” and engaging in meaningful discussions, she strengthened Sister-City ties with Miami and advocated for mutually beneficial exchanges between Grand Bahama, “The Home of Innovation,” and The Bahamas.
Expounding on the importance of this international gathering, Minister Moxey noted, “This conference reinforces our commitment to shaping a sustainable future for Grand Bahama and advancing partnerships that transcend borders. Together, we can build resilient communities and promote sustainable practices that benefit us all.”
