MINISTER OF HEALTH DR. DUANE SANDS PARTICIPATES IN “CONVERSATION OF SIGNIFICANCE” AT MOREHOUSE SCHOOL OF MEDICINE

ATLANTA, Georgia — Dr. Duane Sands, Bahamas Minister of Health, and Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice, President and Dean of Morehouse School of Medicine, participated in “A Presidential Conversation of Significance” on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta.

The event was held In partnership with Global Health Equity Satcher Health Leadership Institute Department of Surgery.

Dr. Sands  was selected by Morehouse School of Medicine as the recipient of its President Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Health Equity Award. He was given a tour of the Morehouse School of Medicine and had a lunch with the Grady Hospital Surgery faculty and residents.

The Bahamas Consulate General in Atlanta congratulated Dr. Sands on its Facebook page “on his recent  recognition by Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) for his leadership in healthcare and healthy equity in the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian.”

“We convey Special thanks on the warm invitation and reception of our Minister of Health by MSM President Dr. Montgomery Rice, the faculty and staff of Morehouse School of Medicine and Bahamian professor and resident surgeon, Dr. Shaneeta Johnson, on this most honorable recognition,” the Consulate General  noted.

According to the Consulate General Facebook post, in response to the recognition, Dr. Sands revealed  that “healthcare partners in Atlanta, Georgia, have demonstrated humbling support of our particular needs in The Bahamas in the aftermath of the storm.”

.“The Ministry of Health will work diligently to bring to fruition every opportunity for growth and support that we have been given by the industry here in Atlanta,” the Facebook post stated.
