NAIRN WINS GOLD FOR THE BAHAMAS IN LONG JUMP

BIRMINGHAM, England, August 4, 2022 — Laquan Nairn struck gold for The Bahamas in the men’s long jump with a leap of 8.08 meters (26′ 6-1/4”) at the 22nd Commonwealth Games today in Birmingham.

Nairn was brilliant in the long jump pit, beating out 23-year-old Murali Sreeshankar, of India, who also soared to 8.08 meters during a nail-biting final.

However, according to the rules, if two jumpers are tied on the same distance, their second-best jumps are taken into account. Murali’s was 7.84m while Nairn’s was 7.98m.

Jovan van Vuuren (8.06m) of South Africa took the bronze.
