WASHINGTON, D.C., April 13, 2020 – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will hold a District of Columbia Telephone Town Hall on Tuesday, April 14, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to hear from residents and to discuss services available to residents during the coronavirus, including unemployment benefits, one-time direct payments of up to $1,200 for eligible individuals and small business loans.
Norton also will address whether D.C. will become the next coronavirus hot spot, the disproportionate impact the coronavirus has had on African Americans and her priorities for the fourth coronavirus response bill, including the $750 million the District lost in the third coronavirus response bill, written by the Republican Senate, which deliberately denied these funds due the District. To respond to questions from residents, Norton will be joined by representatives from federal and local agencies.
There are three easy ways for residents to participate: (1) Register using this link before 5:00 p.m. on April 14 to receive a call at the time of the event inviting you to join; (2) Call 855-962-1514 at the time of the event; or (3) Visit norton.house.gov/live to hear the live stream.
Residents will be able to ask questions and listen to local and federal experts discuss resources available to residents. Because of a possible high volume of calls, “we ask that questions (or comments) should be limited to one minute to help us reach the maximum number of residents,” a press release noted.
“I hope D.C. residents will join me on Tuesday evening to ask questions and to discuss how the recently passed CARES Act and other federal legislation affects them,” Norton said. “During these uncertain times, we all are looking for answers. Coming together as a community with federal and local agencies is a good way to ensure accurate information is reaching everyone.”
