NASSAU, Bahamas — The Bahamas Nurses Union (BNU) is not satisfied with the new eight-hour shift system that is expected to be implemented on December 10, with BNU President Amancha Williams calling it insulting, THE Nassau Guardian reported October 27.
“We are not in agreement with the shift change,” said Williams in an interview with The Nassau Guardian. “The shift change is not better than the shift that is present now. If we are going to change, we are going to change to something better, not less favorable.”
The Public Hospitals Authority (PHA) announced the new shift system at a press conference on Wednesday.
“The new shift system will eliminate the inequity caused by the four nights on/four nights off shift system which results in night duty nurses working only 157 days per year on average, compared to 234 days per year on average for all other nurses,” said PHA Managing Director Catherine Weech, during a press conference. https://thenassauguardian.com/2018/10/27/nurses-union-rejects-new-shifts/
