OAS PERMANENT COUNCIL RECEIVED PRESIDENT OF COSTA RICA

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) received the President of Costa Rica, Carlos Alvarado Quesada, during a protocolary meeting on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at the headquarters of the hemispheric institution in Washington, DC.

President Alvarado noted that the main achievement of the General Assembly of this Organization was to channel the analysis of the challenges in terms of democracy and human rights, in particular in the cases of Venezuela and Nicaragua, along the multilateral and regional path.”

For his part, Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, recalled that Costa Rica will hold the Chair of the Permanent Council for the next trimester and highlighted that “it will have a key role to play in the implementation of the mandates of the General Assembly.”

The Chair of the Permanent Council and Ambassador of Colombia, Andrés González, welcomed President Alvarado on behalf of the Permanent Council.

“Mr. President, you arrive at the heart of the Organization where the peoples of the Americas share their constant desire to move forward in the consolidation of peace, integral development, democracy and human rights,” said the Ambassador.
