Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the OAS.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Organization of American States (OAS)  on Thursday, April 23 at 11:00 EST (15:00 GMT) will launch the Virtual Platform of Emergency and Security Systems to support the countries of the region to face the challenges that COVID-19 represents for the operations of emergency and security Systems.

The online event will be inaugurated by the Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro; the Secretary for Multidimensional Security of the OAS, Farah Urrutia; and the Chair of the Subsidiary Technical Group for Emergency and Security Services and Permanent Representative of Ecuador to the OAS, Ambassador Carlos Játiva.

The Virtual Platform is a common space where the authorities of the Americas will be able to exchange, share and consult information, materials and tools to support them in addressing the challenges of the emergency that the novel coronavirus represents, as well as others that may arise in the future.

The meeting will broadcast live — with interpretation in Spanish and English — on the OAS Website and the OAS Facebook page.
