BRUSSELS, Belgium – Prime Minister the Most Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis officially opened The Bahamas Embassy and Mission to the European Union (EU) in the Kingdom of Belgium on Wednesday, November 13, 2019, hailing the move as a way to deepen relations with the EU and strengthen the country’s position in the global economy.
Brussels hosts the headquarters of the main EU institutions and is considered the capital of Europe. The new Bahamas Embassy and Mission to the EU is located at Rue Belliard 40 on the 3rd floor at 1040 Brussels, near to the European Parliament.
The Prime Minister headed a delegation of senior government officials to Brussels for the official opening that included the Hon. Darren Henfield, Minister of Foreign Affairs; the Hon. Carl W. Bethel, Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs; the Hon. Elsworth Johnson, Minister of Financial Services, Trade & Industry and Immigration; and Mr. Joshua Sears, Senior Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the Hon. K. Peter Turnquest, is Acting Prime Minister during the absence of the Prime Minister, who is scheduled to return to The Bahamas on Friday, November 15.
The Embassy of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and Mission to the EU is headed by Ambassador Maria O’Brien.
