PAC-ADE TO HOST SECOND MEETING OF THE YEAR IN NIGERIA

Rev. Silvester Beaman, former Bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church in Delaware, is Chair of the President’s Advisory Council on African Diaspora Engagement in the United States.

WASHINGTON, D.C., July 12, 2024 — The President’s Advisory Council on African Diaspora Engagement in the United States (PAC-ADE) will host its second meeting of the year from July 14-17, 2024, in Nigeria, the Office of the Spokesperson announced today on the U.S. State Department’s website.

“This is the first PAC-ADE trip to the African continent,” the statement said. “Members of the Advisory Council will convene in Lagos and Abuja, where they will meet with government, civil society, and private-sector partners to discuss diaspora-led investments in education, entrepreneurship, health, technology, youth and women empowerment, and the creative industries.”

The PAC-ADE was announced by President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken in September 2023 “to advise on ways to strengthen cultural, social, political, and economic ties between African communities and the African Diaspora.”

PAC-ADEconsists of 12 members for the 2023-2025 term, including actress Viola Davis, Spelman College President Helene D. Gayle and WNBA player Chiney Ogwumike. The other members are: Mimi E. Alemayehou, Rosalind Brewer,  Patrick H. Gaspard, C.D. Glin, Osagie Imasogie, Almaz Negash,  Ham K. Serunjogi; and Kevin Young.
