PIVOTAL DISCUSSIONS HELD ON THE STATE OF SAFETY AND POLICING IN GRAND BAHAMA

FREEPORT, Grand Bahama, Monday, January 8, 2024 – The Hon. Ginger Moxey, Minister for Grand Bahama, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Shanta Knowles, the trailblazing first female in the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) to head the Northern Division, this week held pivotal discussions on the state of safety and policing in Grand Bahama.

Celebrating the milestone of a zero-murder rate in 2023, both leaders commended the collaborative efforts of the community, law enforcement agencies, and initiatives like “Beautiful Grand Bahama” (BGB), which was spearheaded by Minister Moxey and has successfully employed hundreds of residents who had difficulty finding employment, a factor that contributed greatly to the reduction in crime.

During the meeting, a range of police matters were addressed, underscoring the commitment to continuous improvement and innovations within the force. Both parties emphasized the importance of proactive community engagement, technology integration, and ongoing training to further enhance safety measures and address emerging challenges.

Also participating in the meeting were Parliamentary Secretary Kingsley Smith, MP for West Grand Bahama and Bimini; Permanent Secretary Melvin Seymour; and Chief Supt. Henderson, reaffirming the shared vision of a secure and thriving Grand Bahama.
