NASSAU, Bahamas, Nov. 14, 2022 — The Ministry of Youth, Sports & Culture met today with the Commissioner of Police Clayton Fernander and members of his Senior Executive Leadership Team to discuss a first of its kind Bahamas National Youth Guard Program focusing on equipping young persons with the tools needed to assist the nation, with the help of private and public agencies during national emergencies, such as natural disaster.
Announcing this on its Facebook page along with a collection of photos taken during the meeting, the Ministry noted that partnering “with the police is essential to the overall success of the program,” adding that “fruitful discussions were held relative to training, housing and preparation of Guard Cadets.”
“This program targets mentally and physically capable adults ages 18 to 25 who believe in giving service to their nation,” the Ministry said. “It will give the opportunity for participants to gain technical skills such as CERT certification, boat captain license training, risk assessment, disaster management, conservation training, soft skills and physical training.”
All Bahamians from every island who are 18 to 25 and want to serve are invited to apply, the Ministry said.
