NASSAU, Bahama — The Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) ratified seven more candidates for the upcoming general election during an outdoor meeting on the grounds of the Sir Lynden Pindling Center on Wednesday night, May 12.
The newly ratified candidates include Patricia Deveaux, Bamboo Town; Curt G. Hollingsworth, Marco City, Grand Bahama; Leon Lundy, Mangrove Cay and South Andros; Ginger Moxey, Pineridge, Grand Bahama; James Rolle-Turner, East Grand Bahama; Kirk Russell, Central Grand Bahama; and Obie Wilchcombe, West Grand Bahama and Bimini.
“We revolutionized our candidate selection process and, in an open, transparent and transformative way, selected an eclectic, diverse and talented group of women and men who will be the future of our party and the future of your next government,” PLP Leader Philip “Brave” Davis said at the meeting.
“We have been able to put together a mix of experience and youthful enthusiasm, a team of people who have no other motive but to serve our great party and play a role in the next government of our country.”
Davis also seized the opportunity to criticize the current government, led by Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis.
“The last four years of FNM (Free National Movement) government have been…smoke and mirrors — say one thing and do another, say one thing and do nothing,” Davis declared. “The fraudulent OBAN saga, the whopping VAT (value-added tax) increase, the response to Hurricane Dorian, the Post Office scandal, the Grand Lucayan Hotel sale, the purchase of the Grand Bahama Airport, the broken promises to our hard working public servants, the ballooning public debt and the growing deficit in our public finances.”
The PLP leader added: “And so, whenever Minnis makes up his mind to ring the bell, I say to him and his cronies too soon is not soon enough.”
Extending congratulations to the newly ratified PLP candidates, Leslia Miller-Brice, PLP candidate for Seabreeze, noted in a post on her Facebook page: “Our Team is strong and we are enthusiastic about the future, our mission is clear and we are ready to serve our Bahamian people.”
Ginger Moxey, one of the five ratified PLP standard-bearers for Grand Bahama, noted on her Facebook page: “These persons are all community-builders who we are confident will represent the people of Grand Bahama with excellence.”
