NEW YORK, N.Y., May 2, 2024 – Prime Minister Philip E. Davis, who is in New York participating in a Global Citizen NOW two-day event being held May 2 – 3, and a Bahamian delegation attended the New York Mets game against the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday night, May 1.
Included in the delegation were Senator Ryan Pinder, Attorney General; His Excellency Wendall K. Jones, Bahamas Ambassador to the United States; the Hon. Leroy F. Major, Bahamas Consul General to New York; Deputy Consul General Nestor T.G Sands and other Consul staff members.
They enjoyed an exciting game as Ian Happ, Nick Madrigal and Miguel Amaya teamed up for a game-ending double play to preserve the win for sensational rookie Shota Imanaga after he threw seven scoreless innings in the Cubs’ 1-0 victory over the Mets.
Global Citizen NOW has brought together a diverse group of leaders from both private and public sectors, alongside artists and advocates to urgently address and work towards ending extreme poverty. Prime Minister Davis participate as a panelist in several discussions.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Davis awarded the 2024 Global Citizen Prize for Climate to Vishal Prasad, Campaign Director of the Pacific Islands Students Fighting Climate Change for his contributions to the campaign for an Advisory Opinion on climate change and human rights from the International Court of Justice.
After the game, Prime Minister Davis, along with his delegation, met with Bahamian American Antoan Richardson, a former baseball player and now first base coach for the Mets, along with a along with several Bahamians in the diaspora.
