NASSAU, Bahamas — In a national address that sought to set an optimistic tone for 2019, Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis declared last night that while the unemployment rate increased from 10 percent last May to 10.7 percent in November, The Bahamas is making progress, the Nassau Guardian reported January 29.
Minnis claimed this is seen in the fact that the number of discouraged workers decreased by 6.7 percent.
“This indicates that more Bahamians have confidence in the country’s economic recovery,” he said.
“More people are actively looking for work.”
Minnis noted that expanding the economy is a key to growth, adding that he fully understands the economic anxieties of so many Bahamians.
The prime minister did not make major revelations in his “national report” but outlined the initiatives he said his government is taking to grow the economy. https://thenassauguardian.com/2019/01/29/pm-touts-economic-growth-agenda/
