NASSAU, Bahamas, March 13, 2023 – Speaking at St. Anne’s School’s Annual Commonwealth Day observance, Prime Minister Philip E. Davis today encouraged students take advantage of the opportunities made available to them by the current administration’s determination to empower youth.

“Don’t wait until everything is just right to start helping in your community or working on an issue that matters to you. Figure out which injustice or wrong needs remedying, and then do something about it. Better yet, start a group and become a community of changemakers,” the Prime Minister advised the students.

The theme for this year’s Commonwealth Day, “Forging a Sustainable and Peaceful Common Future”, reiterates the significance of coming together to bring about change.

Commonwealth Day, an annual celebration observed by people all over the Commonwealth, is celebrated the second Monday in March by 56-member-states across Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Americas, the Pacific, and Europe, marking the beginning of a week-long series of events and activities happening around the globe – including faith and civic gatherings, debates, school assemblies, flag-raising ceremonies and cultural events.

Commonwealth Day 2023 marks the tenth anniversary of the signing of the Commonwealth Charter, which was signed by Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on March 11, 2013.

This is the first Commonwealth Day since Her Majesty’s passing, and the first presided over by His Majesty King Charles III as King and Head of the Commonwealth.
