NEW YORK, Sept. 22, 2022 — While attending the General Assembly of the United Nations this week, Prime Minister Philip E. Davis met with a number of leaders from around the world. One meeting on the sidelines was with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. They discussed a wide range of issues on governance, among them climate change, economic growth and social development challenges.
Prime Minister Davis was accompanied by His Excellency Wendall Jones, Bahamas Ambassador to the United States, during his meeting with the former British Prime Minister.
As leader of the Labour Party from 1994 to 2007, Mr. Blair served as Prime Minister of Great Britain from 1997 to 2007. His election as Prime Minister in 1997, on a tide of optimism, ended 18 years of Conservative rule, according to information gleaned from the Internet
“However, after a successful first term, his leadership became increasingly controversial as he supported the American-led invasion of Iraq,” the Internet notes. “Opposition to the Iraq war was a big factor in Blair later retiring from Parliament and handing over the Prime Minister’s job to Gordon Brown. Since his retirement from politics, he has served as a special envoy to the Middle-East on behalf of the EU, US and Russia.”
